Veff Serrations

I (Tom Veff) invented and designed Veff Serrations in 2003 after years of frustration with other serration designs that did not cut well. They are typically called triple point serrations and they are cut at a 90° angle to the cutting edge. They have small scallops with points that snag and catch in the material being cut and need to be used in a sawing motion.

Veff Serrations are patented under US DESIGN PATENT #US D559939 S. They are larger and are cut at about a 50° angle to the cutting edge. The points of the Veff Serrations bite instantly and penetrate deep to feed the material into the hollow of the surgically sharp serrations and smoothly severs the material. I offer Veff Serrations in two sizes only, 1/2" and 3/4". Anything smaller does not cut as well and anything larger is not practical. A common question asked is if both sizes cut equally well. The 3/4" size may cut slightly better and they have more "WOW FACTOR." The 1/2" size is the most popular choice for most knives.

Please note: I use cylindrical drums to install each serration freehand, one-at-a-time, without guides, gauges, or gadgets. Most serrations are not cut to the center line of the drum, which is the full diameter of the drum. As a result, they are never fully 1/2" or fully 3/4" in length. The thickness of the blade at the cutting edge dictates the depth of cut to create a proper serration.

Many factors must be considered when deciding if a knife is a good candidate for Veff Serrations: shape and thickness of the blade, placement of factory logos and engraving, and style and geometry of the blade. Because Veff Serrations are designed to slice and not chop or hack, I do not install them in machetes or large chopping knives. I also do not install them on the back of knife blades (also for liability reasons).

There are some people who do not like serrations. Veff Serrations are not your average (that is, inferior) serrations found on so many other knives. If you have not tried Veff Serrations, don't assume they are like other serrations.
